Sizing Guide

Please use the following measurements as a guide for deciding the right size for your dancer. Many of my costumes have a generous amount of stretch and can accommodate various measurements. If you have any questions about the sizing guide or any products, please contact us!

Important Note on Sizing:

If you are ordering any base costume design that runs small—including all garments made from stretch satin, stretch vinyl, or stretch PVC—please consider the fabric’s level of stretch when selecting your size. Stretch satin offers moderate stretch and may not require sizing up if your measurements fall at the very beginning of a size. Stretch vinyl has more limited stretch; sizing up is recommended if you are midway through a size. Stretch PVC has the least stretch, and sizing up by one full size is strongly recommended.

For all regular Lycra fabric garments, please choose your size according to the size chart below.

If your measurements fall at the upper end of a size (within the last 2cm before needing the next size up), we strongly recommend sizing up.

If your girth measurement is larger than your other measurements, please size up to match your girth for one-piece designs or two-piece designs that are connected in any way (including straps or other attachments), as girth is a critical measurement for these styles.

Girth: There is no need to size up for standard two-piece designs where the top and bottom are separate, as girth is not a considerable factor. These styles offer greater flexibility for dancers with shorter or longer girths, as they do not rely on a full body length measurement.

When in doubt, sizing up is always recommended. Taking a costume in is typically more straightforward than letting one out; alterations to increase size can be complex, are not always achievable, and are generally not recommended.

How to Measure

Bust measurement

Bust/Chest

Standing up straight, measure horizontally around the chest at the widest point.

Waist measurement

Waist

Measure horizontally around the waist at the narrowest point.

Tip: If you bend to the side, the crease that forms on your side is where your natural waistline is!

Hips measurement

Hips

Measure horizontally straight around the hips at the widest bottom point.

Tip: It’s important that you take the measurement across the fullest part of your bottom. Make sure that the tape remains level all the way around and is parallel to the floor.

Girth measurement

Girth

To measure girth, place a tape measure at the top of the shoulder and then run the tape down through the crotch and back to the same shoulder.

Tip: The measuring tape should be close to the body but not tight.

Skirt length measurement

Skirt Length

If you are ordering a custom lyrical
costume I will ask you for your desired skirt length.

To measure this, place a tape measure at your waistline of your back and let the tape run down over your bottom. Determine the length you desire.

High hip measurement

High Hip

If you are ordering a traditional
(non-stretch) tutu I will ask you for this measurement.

Measure horizontally straight around the hips at the hip bone level.
